Florida Demographics 2000 & 2010
I decided to research the demographics on Florida, a state that I have lived in for the past give or take 10 years, after having moved from my home country of Haiti at the age of 10. As it probably known by now, the government in Haiti isn't exactly what most have as an example of political ideology and some may even say is downright corrupted, so writing this assignment about its demographics and how it could affect its government is sadly not ideal. Florida is by far one of the largest states in America and also one of the most populated, and is as diverse as it can get amongst its habitants.
In 2000, Florida had a population of roughly fifteen million nine hundred eighty two thousand and three hundred seventy eight citizens according to the U.S census bureau. Of that nearly eight million were males and a little over eight million were women, meaning there were considerably more women than men living here. There were calculated that a total of twelve million three hundred thirty six thousand were of the age eighteen and over, and I found that to be of more importance because of the allowance of age to vote. Contrary to popular belief and to me personally, ignorant statements that there aren't any more white Americans that live in the state of Florida, it was found that over twelve million of the population is of white, a little over two million are African Americans, about two hundred sixty six thousands were of Asian descents, and more interestingly not really knowing why but a complete separate column for Hispanic and Latino descents where there are roughly two million six hundred eighty two with Cubans being the most of the group at eight hundred thirty three thousand. With the least of all the groups were the Native American Indians at fifty three thousand five hundred forty one of the population, and to think that a century plus ago they were the population.
In contrast, in 2010 the population did see an augmentation of about three million more, bringing it to a total of eighteen million eight hundred one with females still being at more than males at nine million six hundred eleven compared to nine million one hundred eighty nine. These numbers continued to increase across the board with people of eighteen years of age and older to be at fourteen million eight hundred thousand, a considerable jump of over two million from ten years prior which to me still is more of importance and I will elaborate more later in this paper. The population by race also continued to increase, with the majority still being of White at fourteen million one hundred and nine thousand, African Americans having increased just a bit to nearly three million, and Hispanic and Latino outstandingly have increased to four million two hundred twenty two thousand making it about a total of two million more than ten years prior. Native Americans increased by about twenty thousand more than before and the
