Global Demographics Research of Unemployment
Purpose of Research of Global Unemployment
According to Rock (2008), "In a world of increasing interconnectedness and rapid change, there is a growing need to improve the way people work together" (p. 1). One of the first steps in finding a solution to a problem is defining the reason an issue or situation is important. By creating a problem statement, a research team determines the team's objectives and anticipates the projected benefits (D. Puente, personal communication, January 12, 2012). Based on the datasets provided by Lind, Marchal, and Wathen, (2008), Learning Team B's research surrounds countries with highest unemployment percentages, the effect on life expectancy, and literacy's relationship to unemployment ("Dataset CIA Global Demographics"). Thus, Team B's problem statement: The unemployment percentages of Algeria, Libya, South Africa, and Nigeria are the highest on the globe and are part of the 20% worst literacy rates and some of the lowest life expectancy rates (Lind, Marchal, & Watham, "Dataset CIA Global Demographics," 2008).
As reduction of boundaries continues in the global market, business leader must understand the importance of globalization and the global society. Identification of the causes of unemployment rates in other countries helps the members of Team B in their own objectives as business students. Team B does not have such a lofty goal that an anticipated benefit of the team's research would create a correction in the unemployment issues in other countries. However, the team anticipates the identification of some causes of unemployment to benefit the team member's own future business knowledge and application regarding unemployment in team member's own business environments.
Effects of Global Unemployment
All countries possess unique resources that others would request on high demand, but are unable to attain because of the need for better technology, knowledge or way of life. "A good theoretical framework identifies and labels the important variable in the situation that are relevant to the problem defined" (Sekaran, p. 98, 2003). There are many variables that have effects on the global unemployment, though same characteristics link the countries that have elevated unemployment percentage. Unemployment affects not only the unemployed individual, but the individual's earnings, life expectancy as well as for the rest of the family triggering to lower academic success for his or her descendants. To determinate which variable would improve the undeveloped country could be by observing and analyzing the unemployment in developed countries.
