Ethics Awareness Inventory
The ethics awareness inventory was interesting to take. The inventory test was almost like taking a test full of multiple choices but the person had to pick which one he or she liked the most and which one he or she liked the least. Based off of the results from the test itself answered a lot about psychology as well as making sure this is the field that I want to pursue. The test covered everything from personal ethics to organizational issues. Finally the test itself will help in my degree choice in psychology.
Importance of Personal Ethics
The code of ethics is the guide or the rulebook of the American Psychological Association or known as APA (APA, 2011). In other words the code serves more of a model of appropriate behavior than the hard set of enforceable laws (Sludikoff, 2013). The APA was first published in 1953. The code of ethics is based off of five principles that all psychologist must follow. They include Beneficence and Non-maleficence, Fidelity and Responsibility, Integrity, Justice, and Respect for People's Rights and Dignity (Sludikoff, 2013). All psychologists must uphold that standard not to give harm but to be able to give the best treatment that he or she is capable of doing. All psychologist need to do what is right by law (Sludikoff, 2013). So when one treating a patient one must make sure that rules and laws are being followed according to the APA.
Psychological Principles
When it comes to psychological principles many things take place with how one views the issues at hand. For starters one must not judge an individual and growth of others when it comes to any personal, spiritual, social, and organizational issues that I may value. The psychologist must have an open mind when dealing with clients. According to the Williams Institute "Social inequalities exist and tolerance, compassion, and an appreciation for diversity are necessary virtues when working with people (2011)." So in other words just because one person's viewpoint is different from your viewpoint does not make him or her any different from yourself. Many individuals lack the qualities from the ethical perspective value. All of this can be because of problems faced in society such as social inequality (The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management, 2011).
Psychological Knowledge
Development, personal growth and the health of a person can affect the individual's wellbeing psychologically (The Williams Institute for Ethics and Management, 2011).With personal life issues knowledge and ethical principles can help him or her out. As one gets older according to research that he or she looks differently at life and the issues that are in it.
