Dysthymic Disorder
Dysthymic Disorder is a mood disorder over a two year period, characterized by more days then not of feeling down or sad. These feelings associated with Dysthymic disorder are less intense then major depression, but still disrupts ever-day life. While depressed those struggling with this disease could feel hopelessness, Impairment in cognitive functioning, Loss of appetite or overeating, Low levels of energy or fatigue, Low self-esteem, Problems with sleep. At no time in the two years of symptoms has there been a symptom free period for the client that has lasted two or more months, of 1 and 2 above. Dysthymic symptoms typically come and go over a period of years, and their intensity can change over time, too. But in general, you may find it hard to be upbeat even on happy occasions; they may be characterized as having a gloomy personality. In children some of the symptoms for them is doing poorly in school, irritability, poor social skills or lack of social skills. Soe of the causes of this could be Biochemical which is people with depression may have physical changes in their brains, and this may be true of dysthymia, too. The significance of these changes is still uncertain, but they may eventually help pinpoint causes. The naturally occurring brain chemicals called neurotransmitters, which are linked to mood, also may play a role in causing dysthymia. Genes is another reason. Depression appears to be common in people whose biological family members also have the condition, and this also appears to be the case with dysthymia. Environment may contribute to dysthymia. Environmental causes are situations in your life that are difficult to cope with, such as the loss of a loved one, financial problems and a high level stress. I think that this disease would affect my life in every aspect. It would make it very hard for me to function at work because of this because my job as a server is to make sure that I can remember things and because they have impaired cognitive functioning, I would not be able to do the work that is needed in order to appropriately complete each day. I also would do poorly in school because I would not feel motivated to go by my bad mood swings and bad moods in general and I also would not be able to function well off not getting a good nights sleep. I also think that again because of the impaired cognitive functioning I would not be able to study or even accumulate new knowledge. I really believe that this disease would have a major impact on my social life. I feel that a lot of my friends and family might not want to be around me because I would always be in a bad mood. Nobody likes to be around someone when they are constantly in a bad mood. I think that I would feel very isolated and alone.
I feel that many people would be discriminating me because of my poor social skills and my sadness. I think that many people might feel as though I am just a sad person and that it is not the disease that did this to
