The first challenge Madeleine Albright addresses is the threat on terrorism in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Dr. Albright stresses the importance of this subject. She explains how terrorists feed off the claim that there is war between the U.S. and the Middle East. Albright does not want to give terrorists the satisfaction of believing they are warriors defending Muslims. Terrorists are murderers that kill civilians, children, and other Muslims, making them hypocrites. Dr. Albright believes that in order to succeed, we must destroy the fiction that the U.S. is hostile to Arabs and other Muslims. She continues to say that the best solution would be a negotiated cease fire area that halts fighting and the release of refugees.
Our second challenge we face regarding foreign policy is Russia’s aggression and the weakening of our European allies. She claims that the two are connected due to Vladimir Putin has made it his mission to disunite Europe. President Putin may not be responsible for all of these problems, Russia is doing everything it can to exacerbate these problems. Russia is supporting national parties in Europe and aiding the Assad Regime. She believes the next POTUS will need to place a high priority in NATO, maintain a strong relationship with Great Britain and the European Union, and develop a strategy to deal with Vladimir Putin.
The third policy challenge is nuclear armed North Korea and managing our relationship with China. After the Clinton Presidency ended, the agreement with North Korea failed to go through. Kim Jong-un then took office and became determined to build a nuclear weapon capable of reaching the the United States. This has been a major agenda item for the United States.
