People often 'spin' things to their advantage and take liberties when they write resumes for example. Things can be omitted that would make the writer look bad. But we must remember that a lie of omission is still a lie. Dates of work experience are often changed and contact numbers may be 'mis-typed' so that verification of dates is difficult if not impossible. People used as references may be friends or family members instead of former supervisors. Job descriptions can be modified to fit any number of potential jobs.
As a potential employee, one must disclose all information accurately. Do you really want a job that you are not qualified for? It is very tempting to engage in the practice of resume doctoring by saying that everyone is doing it and feel that you have a disadvantage if you are truthful, but if one is truly living a Christian life, one must trust that their potential employer will be diligent in researching potential employees and choose the one who is solidly qualified rather than the one with the best resume.
As a student, especially an online student with all the information that is available on the internet, it is very tempting to plagiarize and not spend the time or effort on my own work but at the end of the day the feeling that I get knowing that I submitted my own hard work is my reward. If I get a good grade, that's a bonus. Allowing my children to see this principle in action is also very important to me.
I feel that not as many people agree with this reasoning as they should but I feel that it has to start somewhere. If I conduct my dealings in this manner than maybe it will encourage others to do the same and ultimately that would result in a better more productive work place. Although it may be a lofty goal, I strive to be the person that business associates and contacts look up to, the guy that does the right thing even when it is not to his benefit.
