The "mind's eye" is a phrase used to describe the ability of the human brain to visualize and perceive
various objects, colours, spaces. This ability to perceive varies for one person to another and is subjective
in nature. Buildings and spaces in them are dependent on various parameters like size, colour, materials
used, and patterns on the surfaces. Attention to details in a built spaces helps in understanding them
better and experiencing every aspect of their existence. I wish to explore the synthesis of organic forms
inspired from nature, textures created from different materials, detailing of the even most insignificant
part of a building with the help of Digital Design & Fabrication.
Architecture packed with emotions and expression has always had an awe-inspiring influence on me. The
works of Antonio Gaudi in particular have taken "detailing" in Architecture to a whole new level. Basílica
i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, Antonio Gaudi's most renowned work which was only 15- 20%
complete at the time of his death, encompasses all the various aspects of organic forms, façade treatment
with various materials and colours, decorations on the exterior of the building, detailing of minor
components like door knobs, bolts & nuts, staircases, balconies, windows, skylights, etc. Another major
aspect of Antonio Gaudi's works was the structural systems he used. He identified the strongest possible
shapes for the construction of arches in his churches. The use of angled or tilted columns which served as
both columns and buttresses and these columns corresponded to the conditions of the vaulting and the
retaining walls. Such various aspects of Antonio Gaudi's are the area I would like to explore initially. Once
all the aspects are understood without any uncertainties, the next stage of the research project begins. All
aspects studied in detail will be employed to design a building with Digital aid.
This Projects aims at how the late 18th and early 19th century architectural principles hold good in the 20th
century where most of the architecture is digitally generated. Structural Analysis, Form Finding, Attentions
