A Communication Process
Sender vs. Receiver
The misunderstanding I will discuss in my paper will be about my last job, which was Family Dollar. Before getting deep into my misunderstanding, I will identify the sender and the receiver of the message related to the Family Dollar employees. Let us start with the sender; the sender of the message was from the District Manager of Family Dollar-Manager of my Manager. Now the receiver of the message was to all the cashiers and stockers.
What was the message?
One of the employees lost the shelves scanner. Therefore, when this happens one or all have to pay to replace it. The payment will be taken out of that person or person's weekly paycheck and the person or persons have to sign a date a special letter for payment. If no person or persons report the lost, then all the cashiers and stockers will pay for replacing the missing equipment, and the cost will be divided between all the cashiers and stockers on Family Dollar payroll.
What Channel was used to send message. The channel that was used for sending this message was through the internet and the particular message that was used to send out to the cashiers and stockers was by Email. What was the misunderstanding that occurred? A nine hundred dollar special device that scans all the shelves everyday that does the ordering was lost within the store and it was not reported immediately to the manager by any of the employees that it was lost. How could this misunderstanding have been avoided? Simple, any of the cashiers or stockers could have notified the District Manager or the Manager of the store, then the manager would have written an incident report, and then they would have posted the information in the stocker room, or on the new board in front of the store. Now with the information given to the manager, all the information on the letter would have to have who was involved, what was involved, and where the incident took place at Family Dollar, also making sure the time and date of what was missing and who was notified when all this took place at Family Dollar.
What I learned from this communication process, if for any reason one of the cashiers or stockers has any type of problem they need to notify the head person in charge whether that is the store manager or the District Manager and the other employees of the company of the situation at hand. I learn that sometimes when a situation like this is small we tend to make it bigger because will hold back information and wait until the last minute to report things to the right people. I also learned that with this issue the main cause for this misunderstanding was the lack of communication. In this company communication seems to be the smallest misunderstanding between coworkers, supervisors, and management. I notice that within other companies I have visited
