During the late seventies, Blair Smith decided to start the growing company of Smith Consulting Services. The decision was based on his advanced degree in computer science and his tremendous farsightedness on the growth of the computer and IT industry. He was predominantly encouraged by the success of firm like EDS and Computer Associates. Hence, there was professional talent and sufficient market opportunities in Houston to start an independent technology consultant business. With that, Smith and three associates from his previous firm, in addition to handful of business clients, they started Smith Consulting in June 1984. Now, it has grown into a major regional consulting firm with approximately 350 employees generating an excess of $45 million in revenues.
The company provides a wide range of services in database design and programming services.
A database is a collection of data, which is categorized in some way. The data has to be quickly accessible and modifiable for optimal categorization. Relational databases are the most commonly used databases. Data in them is placed in tables and they are accessed usually with SQL (Structured Query Language). The are many different types of databases from proprietary one like Oracle to free ones like MySQL.
