Communication is the method by which messages are transmitted. In order to communicate there has to be a source, from which the message originates and a recipient, to which the message is sent to. Even though hundreds of millions of messages are sent every day in some form or another, unless the message is decoded by the recipient effective communication were not occur. Effective communication is important in every facet of life including company and organizational and without effective communication companies and organizations put themselves at a disadvantage to achieve success. The following is a critique of effective and ineffective organizational communication.

In the first part of the "Listening Skills: Yeah Whatever Videos" Pillar is trying to communicate to Miguel that the budget overrun on his project is putting the organization at risk of losing a particular client. During the meeting between Miguel and Pillar, though Miguel acknowledges Pillar's presence he is not actively listening to Pillar and therefore he does not translate the message that Pillar communicates to him. As Pillar is trying to communicate to Miguel he responds to the noise of his cell phone, allowing this "physical distraction" to interfere with the conversation.

There are also the "absence of feedback from Miguel to Pillar, the presence of cultural differences is also at play as Miguel seemingly displays gender superiority toward Pillar, and status effect as Miguel does a lot of telling how great his work is, but not listening to what Pillar is trying to communicate. Sematic problem is also present as Pillar on the other hand uses poor choice of words in trying to communicate the real purpose of the meeting to Miguel. Instead of using "kiss" she demonstrates the "mum effect" by not informing Miguel that he risk losing the client if change does not occur. This is not an example of effective communication.

In the second part of the "Listening Skills: Yeah Whatever Videos" Miguel expresses concern to Pillar about losing the project he had been working on. Pillar informs Miguel that this is what she was trying to communicate to him in their first meeting, but he was not listening (actively) and his communication skills need to improve in order for him to regain that client for future projects.

However, in the second part of the "Listening Skills: Yeah Whatever Videos Miguel and Pillar engages in both the communication and feedback process and therefore demonstrate active listening. They both agree to a plan of weekly communication so that they can correct any potential problems on their part and ensure that all of the client's needs are being met. Miguel also demonstrates that Pillar's position is just as equal to or superior to his own. All of the noise present in the first meeting is noticeably eliminated in the second meeting and effective communication is established.

In comparison, Ralph and Angela in the "Out of Office Reply" videos experienced a different form of ineffective communication in that Angela informs Ralph that she did not receive an email that was sent to all project managers are therefore she missed a deadline in which her report was to have been delivered to Ralph. Angela informs Ralph that she feels that he is
