Communcation Skill

Communication skills are very essentials in every career and often determine the position held and promotion course. But as a nurse communication is not only essentials but very critical because it came mean life or death. Workings as a nurse have led to development of my personal communication tremendously. These skills are acquired through my personal networkings which include family, coworker, patients, school, friends and online friends. Skills earned are mostly dependent on the type of network and therefore will discuss them as I tackle different networks.

To begin with the family network, I come from a large family living in different part or the world therefore online and telephone use are major media I use in this network. Effective use of this media is crucial as it can be expensive. Sending clear message which don't need to be clarified therefore is a requirement. One of the popular tools is Facebook and Google plus where taking several pictures with phone and upload can be worthy thousand words. My best use of these was last years after my son was sick with the cantaloupe listeria outbreak and was in intensive care unit for a month. Since family and my friends wanted update it was easier to upload the picture of progress in Facebook hence communicating with everybody at once. However I have one brother who reside few mile miles from my resident and although online communication is easily and bridges the distant and time it fails when it comes to children socialization therefore even if I can communicate effective technology with him to children social need we meet in the park and have dinners to facilitate face to face communication. When it comes to face to face my listening, empathy and being attentive have made me as family self-chosen conflict resolver.

Friends falls closely as the communication with family members the only additional social aspect as friends you tend to meet where informal communication play bigger part may it be a movie theatre or clubs. The communication and those circumstance are often very casual and unfortunately that where most bias in communication happens may t be stereo tying or attribution bias most likely due to peers pressure and different language like slang used between friends.

My communication at work involves coworker and patient. This one of the area where my personal communications skill have the most impact. Just last week several media outlet reported about hospital where a donor kidney was put in trash although several factor can cause this communication definite play a big role in it. Perception of others, paying attention, proper responses, self-presentation and putting yourself to shoes of others are just some of intrapersonal skill needed to be a good nurse.
