Chapter 8 case study

The chapter 8 case has to do with Sam Nolan, who is the chief information officer at Century Medical. Century medical is a large medical products company in Connecticut. Sam is a big part of this company and helps them save/make money by creating successful IT systems that make simplify work for the company. For example before Nolan the company had to fill out long forms and shuffle through tons of them in order to get the products that they needed to sell. But when Nolan came in and developed a web based system that allowed employees to send out automatic request forms for them to send out to the entire company for approval this saved to entire company a tremendous amount of time and money for work. The projections that they got from this new web based system on the amount of money would save annually totaled up to nearly 2 million dollars. Nolan’s new integrated technology would not only save the company time and money but it would also support team based work and give people more control over their own jobs.

Nolan soon decided to develop ideas for the HR department in order to link century managers, recruiters, and job applicants for a new artificial intelligence system. This would allow the job posing system to be integrated into an external social media command center. The new system was being developed for a couple of weeks until the executive vice president, Sandra Ivey, ended up leaving the company to start a new job. The replacement executive vice president, Tom Carr, was not a big fan of integrating web based systems. He would much rather have recruiting be done with face to face communication and relationships. No matter how much Nolan would explain to Carr how beneficial this new system would be for the company, Carr was not interested in any of his ideas. In order for this new system to be created I think Nolan should come up with a way to use the new system that also involves face to face communication for recruiters and new applicants. If he can show Tom Carr that the new system can help save time/money and also involve getting socially connected with applicants then I believe would take this system into consideration.
