Case Study Project Outlines
This guideline acts only as an outline of the topics that are to be covered for your assignments. It's the depth, detail, and relevance towards an objective in your reports that should set them apart!
Individual Case:
Point 1: In your case, provide an overview of all the management and business issues that are evident. Discuss the issues in detail, their causes, how management dealt with them, and the outcomes. Ensure you address these issues from a qualitative and quantitative position as well as an identification of the company's sustainable competitive advantage.
Point 2: Provide an overview of the environment that covers the case period. Describe the various market conditions for all the markets impacted.
Point 3: Provide a market segment analysis. This includes a review of the competition, their strategies, etc.
Point 4: Provide a review of the company's internal operations, as best as is possible, in order to determine the company's internal efficiencies and capabilities.
Point 5: What did this company do well and what is it that this company can do better?
Group Project: In addition to the above points:
Point 6: Bring this case study current, what is the current situation with this company as best as you can determine
Point 7: Looking forward: Your team is the executive management committee, review the market and internal elements that you've reviewed as well as the current and past management issues. Provide a strategy and support it: for example: will it be the status quo, do you recommend a shift, why and what are the key objectives? Ensure the market data and company data fully support your recommendations.
Point 8: Management Changes/Op Changes: As you recommend a strategic direction address the following internal elements in your defense of your strategy:
a. Operations: What operational changes will you need to make to achieve your objectives?
b. Finance: How will the recommended strategy be funded and how will it impact the bottom line?
c. Marketing: To include elements such as product line, brand awareness/impact, and new marketing suggestions for growth. Clearly connect the marketing strategy with the company's objectives and your data.
d. HRM: Staff weaknesses addressed, additional staff? What elements of motivation can be developed and training required to meet these objectives.
e. Misc: There are 4 other elements to a company's internal structure reference any that are required to be addressed as you recommend a strategy and address any issues
