Business Statutes Acts and How They Affect Business Communication

In the following paper we are going to be discussing the topic of business statutes and how they exist within a business communications environment. A business communication environment is a crucial element in any organizations daily operations. Courier systems, internet and telecommunications are all customary for any function of a business. Business statutes primarily exist in order to regulate the operations of a business. This is so that shareholders of the business and the public at large have an accurate picture of the information at hand. There are three key business communications statutes which are communication, Freedom of Information and Telecommunication acts. Let us now look at defining these acts and seeing what type of impact they can have on a given business.

The first business statute act we will be taking a look at is the Freedom of Information Act. This act has various stipulations, for example any record a company keeps must be made available to the public in multiple forms. Along with records, any organization must provide to the public how they as an organization communicate information and the methods in which they do so. Organizations are also required by law to furnish a statement in which modes of important functions are communicated within their organization and a copy of such in the federal register in order for the public to utilize. Lastly, any amendments made by an organization have to be placed in the federal register so that the general public can be well versed in any changes done to the organizations regulations and policies. In 1996 the United States government amended this act for the electronic freedom of information.

The second business statute act we will be discussing is the Communication Act of 1934. This act is very important because it led to the formation of the FCC or the Federal Communications Commission. The Federal Communications Commission is an agency which is

independent from the federal government and regulates international and interstate communications. Examples of these communications are satellite, cable, wire, radio and television. The Federal Communications Commission also has authority over telegraph and telephone providers internal operations. This act also has given authority to the Federal Communications Commission to regulate the rates on international and interstate providers and domestic overseeing of international agreements in regards to communications performed electronically.

The third and final business statute act we will be covering is the Telecommunications Act. This act was primarily established in order to directly promote the usage of telecommunications. This act also covers laws which have been enacted for the use of television, cable systems, radio broadcasting, wireless networks, and all applicable frequencies. The Federal Communications Commission also has full authority over regulations affecting telecommunications.

Now that we have a general overview of our three business statute acts, let us now take the Freedom of Information Act and see how it applies to business communications.
