"How Beneficial Is a Degree in Business Management?"
Some facts about a business management degree:
- Requires 4 years of a baccalaureate program.
o Need to complete 120 semester hours prior to receiving the degree.
- Types of classes you're going to take in college:
o Finance, human recourses, workplace relations, economics, marketing, team dynamics, and other business or management courses.
Studying this major will:
- Increase your business skills:
o Gives individuals the opportunity to improve on their leadership, interpersonal communication, technology, and other valuable character traits.
The skills that you obtain throughout your business management education are referred to as "hard skills".
A business management degree will get you better job opportunities:
- According the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, also known as the BLS, the administrative manager career field is expected to grow as fast as average. The BLS predicts the growth to be 12% for the next 6 years. During this period of time, more businesses are accepting the applications of those with a business management degree. This is because it is more likely that those individuals will perform better and improve the business with the skills and knowledge they have obtained throughout their education. This business degree can help set you apart from other potential employee applicants.
As for wages, those with business management degrees usually get paid the most. In 2008, the BLS reported that the median annual salary for those that managed businesses, whether it was a private company, hospital management, local government positions, or a university, was $73,520. The highest median annual pay was in the private company management field, where managers were paid $85,980 per year.
A portion of the students that study business management don't just stop there with their education. Going beyond your undergraduate degree and getting your master's in business management will benefit you because you will achieve professional certification. Professional certification to a business management major would be a certificate proving that they're certified as a manager or professional of human resource. You benefit from these certificates because your wage will increase along with your job prospects.
