Boeing and Airbus are two of the largest Aerospace companies in the world. Boeing is a public owned US based company, while Airbus is a small business unit of a larger company called European Aeronautics Defense and space company. Both have heavy holdings within the plane manufacturing arena as well as defense Research and development. But their main products are commercial airliners. EADS is the largest producer with Boeing a close second. They are in direct competition with each other and it is a significant rivalry. " Boeing has the largest Revenue Stream Second only to EADS, but Boeing's net profit margin was considerably higher 5.76% than EADS combined net profit margin of 1.66%.(Hoovers 2102)" From a growth perspective EADS grown considerably over the past year 6.84% while Boeing is actually reducing in size. I believe that this is in an effort to become more profitable as an organization. My point is confirmed by looking at the price per share for each company. Boeing is about $10 more per share than EADS. "From (2001-2010), Airbus has received 6,506 orders while delivering 4,009, Boeing won 5,869 orders while delivering 3,921. Airbus had higher deliveries since 2003. Competition is intense; each company regularly accuses the other of receiving unfair treatment from their respective governments.(Wikipedia 2012)"
Both companies have their own values vision, and mission statements. Boeing has a focus on core values to drive all other processes. Those values are "leadership, integrity, quality, customer satisfaction, people working together, a diverse and involved team, good corporate citizenship, and enhancing corporate value.(Boeing vision 2016)" Their mission statement is "People working together as a global enterprise for aerospace leadership.(Boeing vision 2016)" "Airbus' mission is to meet the needs of airlines and operators by producing the most modern and comprehensive aircraft family on the market, complemented by the highest standard of product support. (Airbus 2012) "Airbus core values are acting with courage, practice teamwork through global integration, face reality act with integrity, drive innovation and delivery reliability, and generate customer value. (airbus career 2012)"
Both have a similar tone however they are very different within themselves. Boeing is more concentric to building itself while airbus is seemed to be more product and customer oriented. But if you look at the values of both companies they are very similar. Both are interested in employee empowerment, customer satisfaction, being a global competitor, and satisfying their customer base. Looking at both of their purposes I see that either one can be used throughout the company. I can see how Boeing's may be lost especially as a mission statement at the production level because it really doesn't tie back to a current state model for them to work from. I don't see it
