Would you want your teenage child or grandmother to undergo surgery that may leave a lifetime of scars or can even be fatal? One procedure can change your whole life. Getting plastic surgery has risk involved; they are too great for both young and old. Age restrictions on body modifications are needed.
There have been major plastic surgeries done on those who are 18 and under. In 2010 according to American Society of Plastic Surgeons nearly 219,000 teens had cosmetic plastic surgery. Plastic surgery may have benefits but for a teen there are also great risks that need to be taken in account by the teen and the parent before the surgery. There are both physical and emotionally risks involved. If your body is not developed enough and you take on a Breast Augmentation you can suffer from long term back and neck pain and they have to avoid the unrealistic expectations about life changes that will occur as a result of the procedure.
The older a person is there are more complications involved in any kind of surgery. Even though their body is fully developed unlike a teenage, their skin is worn out and if they are going to have a procedure like having a face lift they are at a high risk to have a skin infection. Seniors who are healthy and active can be excellent surgical candidates, but there are numerous red flags to look for in their medical records.
Age restriction on body modification is necessary. Age restrictions should be in place to for both young and old people. This policy would be there for your grandmother or teenage child; it will be there so that way they won't go into a major medical procedure, like plastic surgery, blind.
