An affective leader has the able to mobilize others to make extraordinary changes, while building meaningful relationships in the process; this is the definition in which we describe what an affective leader is, however, how does one obtain this status? The popular theory of this is that a leader is made not born, moreover, those individuals with the capacity to become a good leader will become valuable to those around them, their organization and maybe even the world.  The process in becoming an affective leader is highlighted under (Kouzes & Posner, 2007) five principles of leadership.

  1. Model the way
  2. Inspire a shared vision
  3. Challenge the process
  4. Enable others to act
  5. Encourage the Heart

Following the five principle model is more crucial in 2020 than today, tomorrows leaders will have to reach across five generations of people that share the same workspace, obviously the problem with this is generational difference. Across this diversity its important for a leader not compare those generations, instead, tomorrow’s leader should take advantage of the difference in strengths and enable those abilities for optimal performance

Tomorrow’s leaders should exorcise an element of transactional leadership in the coming decade; this element of leadership style promotes rewards for work. Reword incentives maybe needed to encourage this diverse 2020 workforce, or at least in the early part of the decade; because this is not a sustainable solution, moreover, in contrast to this, a transformational leader is future oriented, this leader focuses on ways to make tomorrow better, they go about this in four ways; vision, authenticity, growth, creativity.

The leadership challenges over the next ten years are going to be challenging, today’s world is filled with turbulence do to technological breakthroughs and the rising market of the east. The plethora of emerging technology is the main reason for this disruption, technology has enable people to live longer and communicate easier, however, with a rising population predicted to be over 9 billion people by the year 2030, there will be a issue with scarcity of resources.
