A study by Khagendra Nath Gangai (2014) examines absenteeism at workplace: what are the factors influencing to it. The purposes of this study are to identify the factors affecting on employee absenteeism at workplace and also to analyze the relationship among the factors affecting on employee absenteeism at workplace. Absenteeism is a problem that usually arises in an organization and has become quite common issues especially among employees in many industries whereby the employee or group of employees unable to come and report to work due to some reasons and problems that they faced or cannot be avoided. Through the hypothesis, the study is relating the working condition and visiting place, addiction and personal problem and harvesting season as the reasons of absenteeism occurs.
50 male employees from the GSKCH, Nabha, Punjab, India were involved and become participants in this study. By using the method of qualitative and quantitative, information is successfully gathered. The convenience sampling technique and the structured questionnaire that included 14 closed ended questions was given by the researcher. Specifically, the questionnaire was distributed to the employees who have less educational qualification and the data was analyze by using graph, SPSS 20.0 and Microsoft Excel Worksheet.
As data collected, the finding shows that information and data is getting from the various ages of employees included the single, married and male employees. It was shown that employees whom are single is used to be absent from work as they do not have any responsibility compared to the married employees. Besides that, the main factor that contributes to the absenteeism is because of the personal reasons which the major factor is for harvesting purpose in the month of May to June and followed by addiction to drug. The working conditions and visiting place does not become big influence for the employees to be absent from work.
In addition, due to the data collected is from male employees only, the information is limited and there is not any information getting from the female employees. It is not only male employees that absent from work but the female employees also may absent. This has become limitation to the research as there are may be other reasons that influence employees to be absent. When employees absent, it will impact on the higher cost for an additional workers, low productivity and also low morale among the employees. As if there are good employee relationships and incentives or wages increase for them, the absenteeism problem can be reduce as these factors will motivate them to present at work.
