Skiing is a winter sport that everyone can learn to do. When skiing quietly on the mountains, I enjoy the coldness rushing past me. This sport reminds me of my high school experience. When entering as a freshman, I began with easier courses and worked my way up. However, in skiing we always like to give ourselves a challenge. A challenge can be seen on the Black and Blue trails. In skiing, I am always looking to accomplish something, just like in high school when I take more challenging classes.
Two years ago, I went skiing with my family. My two brothers, Matt and Winston, decided to go snowboarding. The day that we went to the mountain, I went with Matt so we would not get lost. As a result, we decided to go on a double black diamond trail. When I made it through the whole trail, I realized he did not. When I came back to check on him, I found out that he had injured himself.
At first I was scared, but then it was an important accomplishment for me to ski on the hardest trail. I learned to stay low and keep my feet in control under me. Once I did that, the slippery and tortuous slope transformed into a comfortable place for me. Matthew is better now, and he now lets me lead down a trail. Surprisingly, one of my favorite parts of skiing is stopping, and looking down a slope from the top of the mountain.
Now that I am a senior in high school, I know that it is difficult to start at the bottom, but I feel ready for the challenge of college because I have been prepared.
