William James special interest to our course since a significant part of it is concerned with critical thinking. James doesn't call it that, he talks about it as the scientific methods of seeking truth, or in other places as empiricism. I think such methods and seeking are exactly what I mean by critical thinking.
Transitive thought is the part of thought that is constantly moving and evolving. Visually speaking, transitive thought is like a bird in flight. Substantive, on the other hand, is like a perched bird. It is a resting place of thought. Ideas become extracted from the stream of thought at this stage. Another visual is to think of stream of consciousness as a river. It is hard to focus on one part of the water unless there is an object to focus on, such as a stick\\
Many people will make the statement that they want to start tomorrow, or next week, or after this holiday. In all honesty though there is no time like the present to get started. Begin now to be what you will be hereafter. You can do this and you will be successful. Stop putting off what can be started today. Everyone procrastinates from time to time, however, how much longer do you want to be in the condition you are in. No more cheating my friends and no more excuses. It is time to change your diet and start your exercise program.
