In my own personal opinion, it is important to research into the causation of crime. In view of various helpful developments which had been revealed in crime management through various researches, I think the only way to manage and prevent crime is to know the causation. If the society is able to understand the basic causation, then their will be better understanding as to what step should be taken to manage crime. It is quite obvious that crime cannot be completely eliminated from the society, but effective management could help in controlling and reducing it, and this will only come through knowledge and understanding by research.
There are various individual claims as to why people commit crime, even theories such as Strain theory, claims that poor people commit crime because it is their only way to get ahead in the society; therefore they commit crime because they can't help themselves. I think this is far from being true. The main reason why people commit crime could be broken down into three major categories such as Psychological, Psychiatric, and Physical and this might bore down to the fact that some criminal may have some sort of brain defect or might have been a victim of mistreatment at home.
They may also lack mental ability to make reasonable decision or choice .Criminal may also be suffering from chemical or hormone imbalance which may affect the way he /she functions .There are also the possibility of family traits; that is the gene is passed through generations. Our present day society with economic hardship is enough to breed criminals as the gap between the reach and the poor keep growing, and survival of the fittest has become the order of the day. Above of all, I think choice may play a major role in the reason why normal people do what ever they want to do including crime.
