Why are personal testimonies important in sharing the gospel?

Personal testimonies are important when sharing the gospel because it makes you relatable to the person in need of being saved. Personal testimonies are also valuable when helping someone find strength and hope, sharing this strength and hope is very important to a person whether they have been saved or not. Everyone has to be saved, so everyone has a personal testimony if they have been saved. When you present your testimony to another person in need of saving, it makes them see you as a human being and not just labeled a Christian. I feel this is a good thing because sometimes people in need of saving try to steer clear of those who label themselves a Christian, while there is nothing wrong with this, some reject it automatically so it is good to find a common ground with them. If you find a common ground with them it gives them a chance to relate to your story and perhaps find it inspiring.

I know a woman who had a bad experience in her workplace with a self proclaimed Christian and she got the impression that all Christians were like that. This seems to be something that happens a lot, too. But she encountered a man at work who just got to know her as a person. They talked about their children, work, and their past. He didn't press religion on her but he did slowly integrate his beliefs and experiences in their conversations and she became curious because the things he was describing was nothing like the self proclaimed Christian. He told her his story of him being saved and shared his beliefs. She then shared the story about the self proclaimed Christian and he explained to her that this sometimes happen with religion. A person will claim to be a Christian because they think it looks good, but they don't always walk the walk even if they talk the talk.
