When I was young, I always have a passion to pick up a martial art. Therefore I decided to learn taekwondo at the age of 8. I became so preoccupy with it as it was really fun and I could make many new friends. New skills would be taught during lessons and it never really stopped me from learning. After some years of training I thought I was ready to participate in the national competition.
During the day of tournament, which is my first competitive taekwondo competition, I was very ecstatic, prepared and confident to show my full potential. Even though I do not have any experience, I fancy myself to get to semis. However the unexpected thing is that I got thrashed out in the first round. I was very sad and almost feel like giving up Taekwondo, which I spend years learning.
My coach really motivated me. Tell me that I have to believe in myself and not to give up so easily. He believed me and asked me to try again next year. After that experience, I work hard and you could say that I acquired the quality of perseverance. I have learned that I cannot be complacent as there are many great competitors out there that I have not exposed to
Is only when my third year of participating of the competition that I received a silver medal. I was proud of myself and the effort had paid off. Years of sweat and perseverance have finally make me succeeded.
