What Education Means To Me
What is education? According to the Oxford Dictionary, education means development of character or mental powers; formative experiences. Webster defines education as the process of educating or teaching. Educate is further defined as "to develop the knowledge, skill, or character of..." Thus, from these definitions, we might assume that the purpose of education is to develop the knowledge, skill, or character of a person.
Education to me is very important, if you don't have an education now days you can not get very far. Every once in awhile you can find a good paying job with out a degree and make a excellent living but on the other hand it is very hard to achieve.
Education can be a person's past, present and future, and sometimes it is what makes a person an individual. Education is so important because it has such a large influence on everything a person does and can do. Education has let me see that I can better myself as a person with it, not just academically but also emotionally and mentally. It helps me to understand more than just information; education lets me understand myself better. Just like writing a paper like this one, I would not be able to understand how I feel about education and why I feel the way I do and then put those thoughts into words.
Understanding how I feel about education has helped me to create a process for how I will use my education. Instead of believing that it was okay to not be sure, I had to figure it out, why is it that I feel this way. In the end the answer to why I was scared became so clear. I guess I felt this way because for the first time in my life, my future is right in front of my eyes. Even though it took me 10 years to go back to school I know that this is a new beginning and this decision will help impact my own destiny. I had to go ahead and make a decision, and not relay on the people that have supported me, and eventually they too realized that they have done as much as they can and that I must have the want inside of me to further my education. With all this in mind I was still a little scared all these younger people here, but I was not scared in a way that is going to push me away, more in a way that is going to motivate me to understand about what I want
