Many of the people who receive welfare are thought only to be single mothers and minorities. The welfare program is seen as a negative aspect by some people in society. Some people look at welfare recipients as lazy and unmotivated individuals. When in fact the welfare program is considered to be any government ran program for low income families. "The recent recession forced many middle class highly skilled workers onto welfare for the first time." (WPFP) The welfare program consists of helping low income families with their financial needs, food, healthcare, and education.
Temporary Aid for Needy Families (TANF) is cash assistance for children, elderly people, and disabled people with little or no income at all. TANF is to here to help you pay your bills for instance like rent and utilities. If you receive TANF there are guidelines you have to follow. You have to help the child support enforcement agencies establish paternity and locate the absent parent, attend a 30 to 35 hour a week activities, and your allowed a timeline of how long you can receive TANF." In February 2006, President Bush signed the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 (DRA), which reauthorized the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)"Unemployment is another welfare program. Many believe that if you are on unemployment it means you just don't want to work. When really now a days there is many people on unemployment due to the recession. TANF isn't for food, there is a different program for food, which is called foods stamps they help buy food. With food stamps you are only allowed to buy nutritious food. Anyone who has low income or no income can receive food stamps, men included. In order to qualify for the welfare your income must be lower than your home town state's poverty line. The poverty line depends on the size of your family and how much money you bring in.
Welfare healthcare is Medicaid and Medicare. These two programs are federal funded to low income families. Medicaid is for parents and children up to 18 years of age, pregnant women, disabled people, teenagers who live on their own, and children who live in a nursing home. Medicaid is insurance to help pay medical bills and to. Medicare is for a person who is 65 years old or older or receiving SSI. These insurances are in place for people who cannot afford insurance or need help with insurance.
President Bill Clinton put a timeline on TANF because recipients were taking advantage of the system set out to help them. The recipients also gave welfare a negative outlook and now most people think people who receive welfare just want a hand out.
