Problem vs. Issue Essay

A problem that I have faced majority of life is a weight problem due to emotional eating. I identify being overweight as a problem versus an issue because it is a long process, a life changing event that requires much effort to be resolved. A problem is recognized as something personal that has quick solution in the end whereas an issue might not always be that quick to resolve. From a young age, emotional problem have always been a cause for overeating and turning to food for comfort. For me eating has become more as a habit than necessity whenever face with an emotional distress. Food has simply become my own comfort zone.

The first step to not only losing weight but becoming healthier is to acknowledge that I have a weight problem. Then the necessary steps to take is to conduct research regarding the discovering a solution to the problem. Research can be found in varies sources, including the internet, weight loss programs such as Weight Watchers, personal trainers, healthy diet plan and dieticians. In order to work out the details in finding my solution to successful weight loss is by establishing a plan. The plan will have to consist of healthy diet and a workout routine.

To stay on track, and get rid of the bad habit of turning to food when emotionally distress is to also keeping myself busy with other alternatives not including eating. Also, it might be helpful to have moral support from family and friends and even psychiatrics that will keep me emotionally intact with my goal. To withstand other peoples criticism taking a step by establishing a food journal and finding the a workout partner with the same goals will assist me in staying determined and focused towards my goal. The other person can give me the push that is needed to stay motivated. Also taking one step ahead of time and changing little habits such as using the stairs versus the elevator or taking a bubble bath versus eating a snack will shape my creativity in discovering new ways to becoming a new me.

The decision to achieving any goals including my own is recognizing the problem. Instead ignoring the problem at hand, which in this case is being overweight, it is important to face the problem in the eyes and take necessary steps to achieve and accomplish my goal of living a healthier life style. Finally, in the process, barriers are going to occur preventing me staying ahead. However, when realizing the overall outcome of this journey, it becomes easier to stay on track with moral support. Seeing a change and allowing oneself an reward after the first couple steps are accomplished, will increase the likelihood of maintaining my new healthy life style.
