Voluntary work is done based on a person's interest in a particular group or organization, and also based on social class. If a person's interest begins to wane, they may might to withdraw from a voluntary position knowing they can do so without penalty, unlike a set (involuntary) job or position.

This could directly effect the community in which an organization involves itself in, especially if the people leaving are a necessity to keep operations running smoothly. If other members see influential members leaving the group, they might follow suit. If the organization does important things for a community this could directly hurt the cause.
