I have been extremely interested in all things supernatural every since I was a little girl. The biggest part of the supernatural that I like is vampires. I find them to be fascinating creatures. When I was little I really believed that they existed but, as I grew up, I started to become a little skeptical. It is fun to think that vampires could be real but I do not think anymore that they exist. However, I do know that there are people who do believe in them and believe that they, themselves, are vampires but I do not think that they actually are.
On November 8, 2009, Fox News in Cleveland, Ohio, conducted an interview about the vampires in society. Michelle Belanger, the interviewee, said that there are different types of vampires, the first being Lifestylers, but these vampires aren't really vampires at all. They simply just dress in vampire fashion, which means dark clothing, fangs, and so on. The second type of vampire is called Sanguine or Sangs. Sangs are the type that drink blood but claim not to be the blood-sucking monsters that are in fiction. Drinking blood can be dangerous but Michelle says that these types of vampires take blood that they know is safe. For example, if they take it from a person they make sure that person has no diseases.
The third type of vampire is the Psychic Vampire. These vampires draw in energy from the living things around them. More about Psychic vampires and other types were explained in an episode the Tyra Banks Show. In 2008, Tyra had a Halloween episode, "Tyra Investigates the Vampire Culture," where she, as the title says, investigated the vampire culture. In the episode, Tyra interviewed three vampires.
The first vampire had been interviewed many others places and his name is Don Henrie who called himself Vampire King. Don is a Hybrid Vampire, which means he both drinks blood and takes in psychic energy. The second vampire was Sara Lester who called herself Vampire Queen. Sarah is a psychic vampire but not only does she take energy from people; she claims she can also read their thoughts. The third vampire called herself Vampyra but it is not her legal name, which she did not share on the show, and she is also a psychic vampire who prefers to keep her vampire life separate from her business life.
The third source I used for my research was from the publication Lesuire/Loisir, a Canadian journal. In 2008, the second issue of the thirty-second volume was about vampires and their lifestyle. The issue basically restated most of what I already found out but it stressed people should learn to live in harmony with vampires. Vampires are not so different from you and me, they come in all different shapes and sizes, but they just have somewhat different beliefs than us. Vampires do not force their beliefs on to other people, just like most humans do not force their beliefs on to others, and so they should not be shunned just for the simple fact that they are different.
