The article I chose to read was "Digital Video - Flippin Out" by Katherine Grayson. Grayson describes the video device as being compact, light and small and pocket size. She believes Flip cameras are becoming a powerful and useful tool in the classroom. The Flip makes the process as simple as click, record, upload, and view. From video book reviews and school news reports to teacher observations for professional development, video provides a hands-on way for students and teachers to engage more deeply (Cisco Systems, 2007). According to the author, students are into emailing videos, saving videos, sharing videos online, and editing them therefore why not utilize the videos in the classroom for educational purposes. There are so many ways to use the Flip camera in the classroom for example digital storytelling, taking notes, skits, science fair projects, recording interviews and class discussions, reflections, documentation of field trips, or uploads for TeacherTube or as a podcast. The list has endless possibilities of uses for the Flip in an educational environment.
The Flip camera allows the teacher to integrate technology into the classroom in different subjects. Use of the camera allows the teacher to be able to differentiate in the classroom by allowing the teacher to be able to pick different video assignments on student's levels. For example, if the high students in the classroom are able to record a video in class and offer immediate feedback to their peers, the low group of students may need to record the video in class, watch it at home, take notes and come back and offer feedback to their peers the next day. Flip cameras are inexpensive and they are one of the most used technologies in today's classroom. Hurley calls Flip's signature pop-out USB arm, which differentiates the device from any that came before it, "a monster advantage. It allows someone to easily get footage into a computer. You just plug the USB port in and suddenly you're in. Some educators don't even know that these are available to make videos, or that they can get two for $150." (Grayson, 2010)
I like and agree with the idea of using the Flip camera in the classroom. I really feel they would benefit teachers and students in the classroom. What an awesome way to bring some variety to the class. These cameras could increase instructional effectiveness, student engagement, and options for student expression. It's great these cameras are inexpensive, easy to use, and doesn't require video tapes to be purchased. Teachers may find the Flip to be simple and effective to use in the classroom and beyond if they taken advantage of the opportunity to use them. The Flip may help leaders make better teachers if teachers are allowed to utilize this technology in their classes.
In my personal life, I could use this camera for a professional tool to possibly share and communicate experiences with
