Unconscious Collections, Sensibly Organized

Though many people are not cognizant of it, they collect something. Numerous intended keepsakes people collect may include coins, stamps, figurines, Beanie Babies™, expensive cars or exclusive baseball trading cards. Along with the intentional collectables, individuals also inadvertently collect other items such as shirts, books, pictures, shoes and in some extreme hoarding cases, garbage. Whether you purposely collect entities or unintentionally gather up items over a period of time, everyone has a collection of some sort. Each collection can be categorized into smaller groups or subcategories. Stamps can be divided by year, color, or size. Baseball trading cards can be characterized by team, years the player competed, or by each player's statistics. Unconsciously, people may sort their shirts in their closets by color, texture, or style of the garment. After years of not understanding what I was doing, I came to the realization that I, in fact, did have a collection of my own that I also have divided into subsections. For years, I have been collecting DVDs.
The first subdivision of DVDs I characterize my movies into is Horror films. In this section on my shelf hanging on the wall in my basement, you will find movies such as The Child, Frankenstein, The Grudge 2, The Hills Have Eyes, and all three Paranormal Activity movies. In all of the movies I have placed in this section, the setting of each is usually shadowy, unnerving, unsettling, and frightening often leaving you with a feeling of dismay. Early horror films commonly include some sort of supernatural beings or occurrences in which monsters and beasts are incorporated. In more modern day horror films, much of the supernatural and paranormal beings and occurrences usually are portrayed through ghosts and bizarre activity. In any case, the atmosphere of a horror film is tense, anxiety-ridden, and full of overwrought and distressing moods. Each of the DVDs located in this sector of genres has all of the characteristics of a typical horror film.
The next genre I use to organize my movies is Comedy. Movies such as Ghostbusters, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Meet the Parents, and Wedding Crashers can be found in this category. The foremost purpose of any Comedy movie is to make the viewer laugh. In order to create a more relaxed feeling in the spectator, Comedies generally take place in an everyday setting that many people can relate to. Most commonly a viewer will notice the plot taking place in a neighborhood, a mall, house, or familiar restaurant. The atmosphere throughout the film is usually entertaining, amusing, carefree and happy-go-lucky. Though Comedies are typically consistently humorous throughout the film, many of them have a moral to the plot that ultimately conveys a message to the viewers. All of the DVDs placed in the Comedy section of my collection depicts each of these features universally exposed in the genre of Comedy.
