Research area: Identification of Foundation in Turbomachinery Systems
Program code: 1662
The papers, published on results of some numerical and laboratory experiments, carried out in the area of Identification of Foundation in Turbomachinery Systems and related subject areas, were reviewed since the beginning of 1st semester of 2008.
As a part time research student, I could not review or read a sufficient amount of literature written or published in the research area of my study to clearly define the problem, research method and the outcome. However, I have reviewed the following papers to understand the work done so far in this research area.
1. "An Equivalent Foundation Approach for Including Foundation Effects on the Vibration Behaviour of Rotating Machinery" - A Lattab, Dr. N. S. Feng, Prof. E. J. Hahn - First Australasian Congress on Applied Mechanics 21-23 February 1996, Melbourne
This paper investigates and evaluates the susceptibility of foundation modal parameter identification technique to measurement errors.
2. "Numerical Evaluation of an Identification Techniques for Flexibly Supported Rigid Turbomachinery Foundations" - Dr. N. S. Feng, Prof. E. J. Hahn - Draft manuscript for IFTOMM, 6th International conference on Rotor Dynamics.
The purpose of this paper is to determine whether an accurate enough identification of the foundation can be obtained without assuming bearing force linearity and without using Reynolds equation (The Reynolds equation requires higher degree of accuracy of the parameters such as lubricant viscosity, bearing clearance, cavitation effects etc.).
This paper is based on a numerical experiment of frequency response method using known unbalance forces to identify the foundation effect on vibration behaviour of turbomachinery systems. The advantage of this approach is that the bearing model and parameters such as operating conditions, configuration and types, can be bypassed as these parameters do not influence the results.
The numerical experiment of this paper yields a good agreement as the 2 digit measurement data accuracy proves to be sufficient for good results.
3. "Including Foundation Efeects on the Vibration Behaviour of Rotating Machinery" - Dr. N. S. Feng and Dr. E. J. Hahn - 17th International Seminar on Model Analysis - KULeuven.
This paper evaluates the Impedance Matching (IM) technique to identify the Mass, Damping and Stiffness parameters of a field foundation of unbalanced rotating machinery. In this approach the rotor unbalance distribution assumed to be known and the foundation responses due to unbalance at defined coordinated are measured. The forces transmitted from the unbalance rotor to the foundation are
