Tuck Everlasting is a book about a family; Mae, Angus (otherwise know as Tuck), Miles, and Jesse Tuck in fictional Treegap. The Tucks discover magical water under a strange looking tree. After they drink this water, they soon find their bodies have undergone changes and they also are not getting any older. Through the years they discover that everlasting life is not what they thought it would be in the beginning.
The story of the Tucks begins with them searching for a place to live and discovering a spring of fresh water. They had been walking for days and only drank from the spring because they were thirsty. The water had a strange taste, but they drank it anyway. All of them including the horse drank, the only one from the group that did not was a cat. Little did they know this spring contained a magical water. Before they left Angus carved a "T" into the strange tree to mark where they had been. She was convinced he had sold his soul to the devil. Due to their ability to not age they had to move from their farm, because their friends thought they were into witchcraft. Upon leaving the farm they headed towards Treegap and came upon the tree they had discovered many years before. They knew this because the "T" was still there and unchanged. Angus wanted to be sure they had everlasting life; so he took a gun and aimed it at his heart. The shot knocked him down, but went right through him as it had with the horse before. After this they went a little crazy, realizing for the first time they really had everlasting life. They then sat down and talked on what this really meant. They decided that this secret should only be known by them.
Years later a little girl named Winnie Foster came into their lives. She had tried to run away from home by running into the woods. There she saw a young man sitting by a tree
