They were on different sides, but Hector was the best warrior on the Trojan side while Achilles was the best warrior on the Greek side. Both suffer from arrogance and pride. Hector shows it, when he refuses to withdraw the camp into the Trojan walls. And Achilles show his when he refuses to fight, when Agamemnon takes his war prize from him. However, more people probably like Hector better, because he has a family. Hector is portrayed as a family man, and that earns him a lot of brownie points. Because it makes him seem like he is fighting for his family. On the other hand, Achilles is fighting for nobody but him self most of the time. And for most of the Iliad he does not fight. Achilles was lured into the war for the glory and blood of fighting. Although Achilles does fight for his cousin I believe Patroclus when Patroclus is killed by Hector when wearing Achilles' armor since Achilles was not fighting. Hector's strength is that he is honest and family man. His weakness is that he is arrogant which leds to his downfall when he does not withdraw into the walls.
