Trends in the Environment

The reusable grocery bags used in the markets today are a very good idea and a good way of reducing the pollution created by the popular plastic bags. The intensions of the plastic bags were to minimize the use of the old paper bags that were made from trees. The new green reusable grocery bags are made of recyclable materials making them an even greener product. The only down fall that I can pick from the green bag is that people are accustom to the free plastic bags that where available to them with ease and the benefits of there use. For example the plastic bags serve as a small garbage bag for all sorts of waste and people would even come up with all other ways of reusing the plastic bags. For these reasons and the fact that the consumer must pay a dollar on average for the reusable green bags are why they are a hard concept or trend to adopt. A solution for the continued use of the plastic bag trend has to come from the development of bio-based polymers this application has been considered since the 1980's ( Khoo 2010). These plastic bags can be re-introduced to the environment for natural decomposition. And for those who want to use natural green bags Judy Lazar from Montreal Canada is importing cotton from Turkey to make her "Credobags" an idea she came up with to make reusing bags a trend. (Beaudin 2009). Making reusable bags that will be attractive to consumers will take marketing design and research. Consumers like design and if you can come up with a trend that is attractive many others will follow.
