This week contained a greater detail of information that my previous thoughts of Project Management. In the past, I believed I understood what project management entailed. However, after studying this week, I was one again humbled and realized I had much to learn. The definition of a project detailed more information than I was ever privy to. I used to think that a project was a task that team members would collaborate on and reach a desired outcome. The true definition details a greater amount of what a project entails and consists. Project management is similar to the four functions of management using planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. However, the detail is greater in project management as the scope of necessities is narrowed. I learned that project management is more like a hands-on approach versus the directive approach of business management. Further, the life-cycle phases reminded me of the processes of marketing. Although marketing is involved in the project, life-cycle phases encompass both marketing and business management functions. I found this integration quite interesting and useful in the business environment. I now understand how beneficial project management is, and that it is not just a title for organizations to place employees under. Project management is vital to companies and I look forward to learning and applying more of the processes.
