The theory of the multiple intelligences has been talked about for many years. Most people have argued that they are not important but they truly are. A lot of children have been labeled very bad things just because they are not word smart or number smart. I believe that if children are helped and knowledgeable with the multiple intelligences they can become better individuals. The Multiple Intelligences are very Important because they can help shape the future of a child and also adults. Howard Gardner has been the person that has argued this theory for years. He believes that just cause a person is knowledgeable in one type of intelligence and not the other they are not to be considered learning disabled but that they should be knowledgeable in all intelligences to be more successful. And have better chances to get jobs and be ahead of everyone else. There are many intelligences which include: Linguistic Intelligence which is known as Word Smart, Logical-Mathematical Intelligence which is known as Number/Reasoning Smart, Spatial Intelligence which is known as Picture Smart, Bodily-Kinesthetic which is known Body Smart, Music Intelligence which is known as Music Smart, Interpersonal Intelligence which is known as People Smart, Intrapersonal Intelligence which is known as Self Smart, and Naturalist Intelligence which is known as Nature smart (Gardner). These intelligences are the ones who label a person who and what they will be in the future. It is wrong to label someone as learning disabled just because an individual is not smart in what is being taught to him or her. I myself have taken a multiple intelligence test to see where I stand. I did not have a good score in the number and reasoning intelligence but I don not believe that I will be a failure in life because I do not do well in math. These are the many things that children have to go to through and sometimes-even adults they may be considered outcast just because they are not committed to the institution in English or Math but if the teacher or the individual took the time to help with each intelligence they may become better at something they might have never even thought of doing.
If children are knowledgeable in multiple intelligences they will have a better chance to be successful at what they might not ever thought they would do in their lives. Children can be more successful because they will have the requirements needed for the many experiences that they might encounter. They will not only be ready they will be one step ahead than everyone else. Their skills will be the thing that will give them that edge to get what they want. The advantages that the will get are endless. They can get the jobs that another might have not gotten because of a certain skills that other individual might have had. The jobs that they can obtain will be better paid and easier for him or her because he or she was better prepared and taught better. The chances for the children who were taught and shown all intelligences is a seventy-five percent chance of getting that job they might have wanted or getting a job in different type of subject they never thought of becoming successful in (Teele).
Many people believe that the Linguistic Intelligence and the Logical-Mathematical Intelligence are the intelligences that are the most to be taught. I think that this should change because if children were helped to be knowledgeable in all intelligences then it would not matter which is better or not. Teachers at many schools are just given a type of way to teach but they are never given the students that will commit to the teachings. They think that it is if they are locked in a prison with nowhere to go. Children would have a better outcome on how they learn, act, and teach in the future if they listen to what is being taught.
Many kids have been labeled "ADD" or learning disabled just because they cannot understand certain word problem or spelling problems. Since the Linguistic Intelligence and the Logical/Mathematical Intelligence are the only ones that are really being focused, children cannot be given the time and appreciation for the talented gifts that they might have in another type of intelligence. There is no way that an individuals can be compared by saying that one is smart in math and the other in music because they are both smart. This is the situation that many kids have to go through everyday at school and they fell that there are not any classes that would focus on what they like. They just have to find it because they do not know what the school offers. If they would just ask someone at their schools what is offered they can find many different things that thy might enjoy but since they think their regular classes are boring they think that other classes will be boring as well (Armstrong).
Adults can also bring back their knowledge of their intelligences if they want to. The theory of the multiple intelligences has said that it can have strong implications for adult learning development. A lot of adults have found themselves in situations when they apply for a job, they do not get it because they do not have the requirements that they might need. Since they did not use the most of their intelligences that could have been developed when a child they could not get the job they wanted. They will fell disappointed because the person with the better talents and requirements got the job but in their head something will trigger in their head which will make them want to learn the requirements needed and then be ready when applying to their next job. If adults do take the time to become more knowledgeable in all of their intelligences they can bring old habits. The theory of the multiple intelligences gives adults a whole new outlook on how to look at their lives. If an adult becomes knowledgeable in the Naturalist Intelligence he/she can become a forest ranger (Armstrong).
Schools should really use this philosophy in their classes. There are many schools that are really considering using this philosophy and to redesign the way schools teach. They can have more educational field trips, educators from many different subject come and talk to kids at school and show them that the have many choices in life and that they do not have to be a math teacher or English teacher. They can be musicians, artist, astronauts; they can have all the choices in the world without limits. Then again there are still schools that teach the same. They have boring lectures and use the same boring textbooks with worksheets for homework that the people in high school and even smaller children hate. It is understandable that many schools sometimes do not do this because of money but schools do try to make his happen. Schools in Chicago have already started doing this. If the philosophy is used more children would go to school and would actually like to learn (Nelson). My school seems to be one of the
