The story begins with Neddy Merrill at a cocktail party where he comes with and idea that seems to be very original. In his living area most likely there are swimming pools back yards because he has an idea of getting there after party and go swimming on his way to his home. Definitely this involves talking to many people who are the owners of these swimming pools of which he knows some and too much walking. This is to be more of fun and many gets pleased as they allow him swim in the pools they own. They enthusiastically greet him, welcomes warmly and gives him drinks a show that he is from upper class standing social according to the way they regard him.

Astonished, he has no retention of anything on the sale of the house though he had seen it just a while ago as he comes across a drained pool on his way. He has a lot of fear if the worse or his retention might slip away as the owner of the next house says he is sorry has he has no idea of what he is talked about on hearing the problems of his money and family. He becomes a moneyed community member as he begins demanding for money from the house next though he is treated virtually.

The pools gets cold has he started his swimming project during midsummer and he also realize that he has bad and difficult times for swimming. He realizes of a young unreassuringly boyfriend as he stops at a former mistress home who warns him not to ask her any money.
