The Sound of Music
Hollywood is known for twisting up the history portrayed in many films. In the Sound of Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein, filmed in Austria during the late 1930s, has been a very great success throughout the years. It conflicts a love story, the beauty of music, and the drama of a broken home during the invasion of Austria by Germany.
The main characters of the Sound of Music are Maria, Captain Von Trapp and the Von Trapp children. Maria is connected to the children because she is their governess and she is there for the children emotionally after their mother has died. Maria is also connected to Captain Von Trapp because throughout the film, she helped him move on and revived his love for music and his family. The film takes place during the 1930s in Austria when Germany is marching into Austria. The main plot is Maria, a loving free spirited young woman, a nun in training. Even though she has full commitment into her religion she doesn't seem to fit in the life style of the nuns'. Later, Mother Abbess sends her to be a governess for the seven children in the Von Trapp family in which she ends up falling in love with Captain Von Trapp. At first, the children were displeased to have another nanny and didn't greet her warmly, but with the adventures that the children were having they were able to let go and experience the joy of music they grew fond of Maria. When the Captain finds out of their trips outside of the house he is furious of Maria for breaking the rules, when she protest he tells her to leave. Later, when he enters his home he is surprised to hear his children singing his favorite song called the sound of music. He is amazed by their singing so he begs Maria to stay and is content that he has music back in his house. Next, Maria finds out she is in love with the Captain Von Trapp when they dance together, when The Baroness sees Maria as a threat to her future with the captain she tells her that she sees Maria's love with the captain but she tries to deny it by running away from her emotions back to the abbey. Then one of the sisters made her realize that `she belongs in the Von Trapp household. Then Maria decides to go back and she ends up marring the Captain. Then, at a completion that the children at participating they decide to leave Austria and the Germans go after them to try to stop them but they don't succeed. The theme of the film is to follow your heart and you will overcome many things. Due to Maria's positivity and her love for music she is able to change the Von Trapp's family lives.
Throughout the film, the costumes that were worn are accurate because the boy's wore long or short trouser pants, with suspenders which was common in that time period. The girls wore knee-cut dresses or skirts with a white shirt. The uniforms that the Nazi's
