Part 4 of 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' is interesting because to the reader it seems as though the story has ended. The ending of an epic journey. But the reader realises that only half the curse to fort. The key to the , 'and I blessed them unaware', this is important because he blessed the snakes and quickly as he killing the albatross. This gives the dangerous element of suddenness, and confused thinking given the reader cause to further enquire about the mental state of the Mariner. This is also in question when the language Coleridge uses brings to life the ethereal world.

The Guest brings the reader back to the temporal world-'I fear thee, ancient Mariner I fear thy skinny hand', this shows the reader that elements of the temporal world may be exhibited in this section. But the use of the Wedding Guest is interesting because it shows the reader that the Guest has broken out of the hypnosis, the reader also breaks from the trance as they follow the Wedding Guest, the iambic rhyme gives the poem the hypnotic quality. The use of the Wedding Guest is important because the reader compare the Mariner with him. The Wedding Guest is in an atmosphere of normality (before the Mariner accosts him) the Guest is surrounded by people and this image contrasts with the Mariner 'alone, alone, all, all alone', this shows the reader how different the two characters are. When the Wedding Guest is brought back he talks about the Mariner's 'glittering eye' again this reminds the reader about seeing the Mariner's soul the synecdoche effect, which shows the reader that the Mariner is ethereal. Coleridge uses colours and images to show the reader the situation the Mariner is in, 'rotting deck', 'rotting sea' by repeating the
