The Quarry

During the summer holidays Lucas, Jack, Pat, Luke, Dylan and I all rode our bikes out to the huge quarry just out of town which is always full of water.

On our long perilous trip out to the quarry, I had a bit of a tumble over the handle bars, got ran over by the front wheel, kissed the road then ripped my shirt on the cogs of my bike. It was a good thing I was wearing my helmet otherwise I wouldn't have much of an ear left. After that incident we continued our journey towards the quarry, all the while I was feeling very stiff and sore. It wasn't long until the uneven road claimed another victim. Luke had also fallen prey to the uneven road, with him also having a bit of a "stack" and landing face first in the dirt. Two stacks already and we weren't half way there. By the time we got to the quarry we were all hot and tired, no time was wasted and we jumped into the cold refreshing water. Pat in all his wisdom thought it would be a good idea to test out the old row boat he found lying on the shore. As he was pushing the boat out from the ankle deep water to the five metre drop off he stumbled over the edge. When he tried to scramble into the boat he found that not all boats float and it was filling up with water very rapidly. He had to make a quick scramble to get the boat back to shallow water before it sank.

Next we started doing tricks off the six metre cliffs into the deeper water. It wasn't long before Lucas had the urgent need to use the toilet. Now this wasn't the most convenient of moments to feel the need especially when you're half an hour from town. So Lucas chose the biggest tree he could find and backed up. Now leaves don't do a great job of finishing off the job so he made the run of shame and dived into the water leaving his undies on the bank. This with a group of teenagers wasn't a good idea. We couldn't resist the urge to have a joke with poor old Lucas and hid his undies.

Now we thought we were the ones playing the trick here but with all the commotion with Lucas' run we didn't notice the local Angus bull making his way over to see what was going on. Well when Pat saw the bull so close he jumped so high he nearly cleared the fifty metre quarry. I also wasn't taking any chances either and when the bull came within ten metres I also jumped and almost landed on Pats head. Lucas took advantage of everyone being in the water and raced out to retrieve his undies from under a scotch thistle where we had hidden them. The bull eventually moved on and we dried ourselves and began the ride home.

After hours of fun in the sun we were all burnt, tired and ready to go home. So we jumped on our bikes and headed back to town. I was feeling quite stiff and sore with skin off head to toe. When Luke and I eventually got home Mum had a panic attack when she saw me. After our eventful day we had tea
