The Prologue of John’s gospel is a reflection on the holiness and incarnation of Jesus Christ. It is written to portray the image of Jesus — who he was, what he came to do, and what he means for all people. With John’s prologue, Jesus’s holiness can be described.
As an illustration, John’s gospel 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. he was with God in the beginning.” God did not come from anywhere. He was there from the very beginning. He was there before anything else, and nothing existed before God. “the word of God” portrays Jesus, as he is the image of God - who will show us God’s grace and truth.
Furthermore, John has also penned “In him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:4-5), God is life. Not a creature, but a holy person. Mankind chose to walk in darkness, throwing away all His sacrifices and importance to life. Good things were said to be “light”, and evil was “darkness”. Jesus was born with the duty of bringing light, who not only reveals our sins but also flash a way to be saved.
Lastly, John wrote “The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14), He chose to bare his divinity nature and live physically in the earth. God himself, who made everything and everyone, was incarnated as Jesus - the only Son. He is the figure of God, in human form.
To conclude, John’s prologue is an exact model to characterize Jesus’s divinity. HIs divine duty on earth, reassures that he was and is the Son of God. John’s gospel prove that Christ is thoroughly divine.
