In “The Prodigal Son”, there is a father and there are his two sons. Both sons are very different from one another. One is a hard worker, has always been true to his father and overall a good person. The other brother, the younger son, on the other hand was disobedient, slothful, free spirit. The younger son says to his father for him to give him his “portion of goods that falleth [to him]” (Luke 15.12). The father divided the property among his two sons. The younger son leaves home with the inheritance and lives lavishly with friends and spends till he goes broke. “And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want” (Luke 15.14). When he loses all he had, his friends also leave him. He’s alone. He cannot find work, and receives no help from friends. This breaks his character once and for all. Once all this happens is when his family comes to mind. “I will arise and go to my father” (Luke 15.18) he says. He would be his fathers “servant”.
He returns home and his father runs to greet him and kiss him. The son repents to his father and claims he is not “worthy to be called” [his son] (Luke 15.21).the elder son was working in the field and came home to festivity. A servant brings the news that the younger son has returned. This angers the elder son. The father comes out to ask his to come and rejoice with him for the return of the son. The elder son says that “these many years” he served his father and obeyed him and worked for him and “yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends” (Luke 15.29). He is so upset; he won’t even go celebrate with his father and brother. To repair their relationship he needs to come to an understanding with the father for why his father rejoiced for the younger son’s arrival home.
His feelings against is brother was mainly because his brother wasted his father’s money and property, and now he was being treated as if he did nothing at all. The father was rewarding the younger son for his extravagant life style. The elder brother had been true to his father, so when the younger son was being rejoiced, the elder brother couldn’t believe it. He then emphasizes with his father. He and his father eventually come to an understanding after the father explains why he was rejoicing. “It was meet that we should make merry, and to be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found” (Luke 15.32), so why not rejoice the father says. Elder brother then understands, and forgets what happened with his brother. Here is where the brother shares feelings with the father, and when the father explains why he did what he did, he comes to an understanding for what happened.
