Discuss: - The Most important function of Advertising is to help to sell products.

I don't agree to the above statement. As I feel advertising is much more than just selling the product. It's more about the message it conveys to its audience. It's about how it can hold the attention of its target audience

Advertising is a process, not a medium in its own right, although it uses different media forms to communicate. Advertising, in its simplest form, is the way in which the vendor or manufacturer of a product communicates with consumers via a medium, or many different media. Advertising = messages.

"Advertising doesn't create a product advantage. It can only convey it" William Bernbach. Advertising as I feel is a process to send message to people about a particular product. It helps people to differentiate the product from their competitors as there are so many products in market with similar feature advertising makes it easier for people to differentiate easily. for e.g. 2 soaps from different brands selling same kind of soaps. It also helps the manufacture to communicate its product information so that people can get a clear idea what is the product about its features and flaws.

It also helps to urges people to continue using the product they used before by creating the brand recall in their mind for e.g. Dove shampoo using various models and telling their experience to use the product. Advertising also helps Too increase brand preference and loyalty because people recognize the product they have used before and continue to use the same. In certain situation advertising is of great help when company has a low budget and they wish to reach large number of audience. Attractive advertising helps to generate new demand for the product.

In conclusion, I would like to say that advertising plays a vital role in brand recognition, brand recall and it's very helpful when a company needs to establishment of new brand, a brand extension or brand line but selling a product is not the main function of advertising it's just a small aspect of it.
