The Monroe Doctrine
I think having the Monroe Doctrine is a good thing. I believe this because the policy states that any forms of colonization or interference in North or South America would be seen as an act of aggression. So therefore the U.S. will take action to Europe trying to colonize in the western hemisphere.
The doctrine itself has been in effect since 1890, when the United states started using the doctrine. It states that England was a supporter of this doctrine and wanted to jointly issue it. Adams convinced president to state the policy alone. England would still be a supporter because of their trade interests. The doctrine had countries that were supporters of the policy and some not, like Europe. Europe was not particularly favoring the doctrine because it was going against them and telling them where they can and can not colonize.
I also feel that having this doctrine separates us from chaos. If the doctrine were to no longer exist in 1890, Europe would have free will to come to North or South America and start colonies. Europe could involve itself in political affairs of the nation and could lead to Europe taking over our nation. Just because there was no policy to say that Europe shall not involve itself in the political affairs of the U.S. This doctrine has kept the U.S. peacefully living and no colonization that the we don’t know about. This is another reason I think the doctrine is very helpful.
I think the doctrine should stay not only because it keeps peace between America and Europe but also it keeps other countries aware of the power the untied states has. The U.S. is no longer the country that has no standing army and little industry we are a country that can make polices toward other countries and they obey. The doctrine should stay because it gives the U.S. the authority and something to always look back on. This doctrine caused more rules and policies to be made like the one that Secretary of state Adams made with the Russian colonization.
I would keep the monroe doctrine in effect because of all those things and because it has worked for many years. To take away something that has been in effect for so long it could cause chaos between the countries. I think the doctrine keeps every country peacefully living and avoiding conflict. I think he monroe doctrine is a great policy and should continue to work between the countries.
