The integration of the country in international relations, including the development of foreign trade, is one of the most important factor in the functioning of the national economy of the state. Since Ukraine is a country with an open economy, it takes an active part in international cooperation. The problem of balancing foreign trade of Ukraine, it means the higher growth rate of imports and less high growth of exports, leads to the problem of the uncertainty of its place in the international division of labor. Thus, the relevance of the theme is the need to balance the commodity structure of foreign trade in Ukraine.

To determine the degree and form of participation of Ukraine in the international division of labor some problems were resolved: revealing of the essence of foreign trade and international division of labor, the analysis of foreign trade turnover of Ukraine, the evaluation of the effectiveness of Ukraine's participation in the international division of labor, identifying key issues of the participation of Ukraine in international trade, exploring the prospects of foreign trade of Ukraine.

I have revealed the essence of foreign trade, which is based on international division of labor, the main reason for its importance for the economy:

 accelerated development of international trade caused quick recovery of most countries after World War II (40 years before the war exports increased by 3 times, 40 years after the war - in 37 times).

 foreign trade is growing at a faster rate than economic development of countries at all.

 growth of export quotas, which means the growing involvement of countries (including developing countries and countries with a low level of socio-economic development) in the global economy.
