The History of Fashion
Clothes reveal what groups people are in. In high school, groups have names: "goths, skaters, preps." One certain thing in the fashion world is change. We are constantly being bombarded with new fashion ideas from music, videos, books, and television. Movies also have a big impact on what people wear. Back in the 1500s we wore renaissance clothing. For example, bodice to support the bosoms, chemise to slim our bodies, 2 layer skirts and a snood to protect our head. In the 1700s the women wore clothing that covered everything; like full body outfits to protect ourselves. Also women wore this because the men made us wear it. Women didn't have the voice to express who we were. 1950s, teenager girls everywhere dressed like Elvis Presley, greasers, the tight clothing; for example leather, levi jeans. This was relevant because it showed that women were now tough and their own beings. Teenager girls in the 1980s were dressing like flash dance; bright colors, jewlury, mini skirts, holey shirts. This was one of the first times that women had the chance to be their own selves and be able to really express it. There is so many new ways to dress that no one is the same. The fashion changes over and over all the time. It changes because of the weather, the era, and the work that needs to be done. Fashion started out with only 1 outfit for a person. The history of fashion is not only the clothing and accessories but also the way it is formed by how consumers get it and where it comes from also why. There is so many types of fashion that you cant name them all but fashion is just another way of life.
