The eight Beatitudes are blessed are the poor in Spirit, theirs is the kingdom of God. Blessed are they, who mourn, they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, mercy shall be theirs. Blessed are the pure of heart, they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, they shall be called children of God. Blessed are you when they persecute you and utter every kind of slander against you because of me.
The first beatitude, blessed are the poor in spirit, theirs is the kingdom of God is the beginning of Christian life. This is the beginning of the personal relationship with God. If you need God in your life then the Kingdom of God is in you.
The second Beatitude, Blessed are they who mourn, they shall be comforted. There is a three part process to this Beatitude. In the past the attitude is sorrow for what you have been previously. The first step is Penance. In the present it is what you need to do to change. This is repentance. In the future you must live each day in holiness. This step is conversion. If you begin the process of changing then God is going to help you through hard times to become more Christ like.
The third Beatitude, blessed are the meek, they shall inherit the earth is the meaning that you should have absolute total trust in God. This Beatitude says that you cannot see, hear and directly experience God. This is the most difficult of all Beatitudes because you must rely on others.
The fourth Beatitude, blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, they shall be satisfied means that you want something so bad but you can't taste it. This is living the authentic life a Christian can to the fullest.
The fifth Beatitude, Blessed are the merciful, mercy shall be theirs tells you that God has done good for you in every moment of your life without expecting anything in return. Mercy is the loving disposition towards those who suffer distress. Love, compassion, and forgiveness towards one neighbor will bring peace in your relationships.
The sixth beatitude, blessed are the pure of heat, they shall see God is a personal relationship with someone you want to know everything about that someone. The same is true with God. Therefore, coming to know, love, and serve God you must continue to learn about God and his ways through scripture, prayer and tradition.
The seventh Beatitude, blessed are the peacemakers, they shall be called children of God has the meaning that peacemakers not only live peaceful lives but also try to bring peace and friendship to others, and to preserve peace between God and man. The Lord wants you to first be fulfilled with the blessings of peace and then to communicate it with those who need it.
