All around the world, the role of women differs. Fortunately, in the United States women have freedom. Unlike the United States, Saudi Arabia doesn't allow women to have as much freedom. Generally, everyone can agree that we live in a male-dominant society. Over the course of thousands of years, the roles of women did become more vital. How did women become unequal to men? The early humans created the development of gender inequality.
One reason early humans created the development of gender inequality is for higher power. According to Hughes essay, "...Imperial kings subordinated the goddesses to male gods, often as wives of the gods." (pg.13) This allowed the male gods to have more power over their followers than the goddesses. In addition, " Hebrew women were excluded from access to the covenant of males in a religion that allowed worship of only one male god." (pg13) Who excluded the women? The men did because they wanted to have more power in religious matters. This is how the desperation for higher power caused the development of gender inequality to be created.
Another reason early humans created the development of gender inequality, women and men were different. Women reproduced, raised the children, and cooked food while the men went out and hunted for animals. Although, women did what they were capable of doing to gather food as well. "... women gathered roots, nuts, and leaves and trapped small animals." ( pg.12) "The food women gathered sustained families, rather than the meat of the male hunters, whose production was erratic." (pg. 12) The men had a tougher role in acquiring food for the families which caused them to have a significant role in the family. Furthermore, the men were the heads of their families. This is how the differences between both genders caused the development of gender inequality to be created.
Women have been subordinate to men for thousands of years. The early humans created the development of gender inequality for many reasons including for higher power, differences between the genders, and etc. some reasons may be even unknown. Maybe one day in the future both genders will be equal. Afterall, women's roles improved and they've gained more freedom over the years.'
