The Day I Cannot Forget

The day I cannot forget is February 26, 2010. This day will live with me forever. My world was turned upside down in a blink of an eye. How can god allow this to happen to my family as well as myself. This date made me realize that nothing is promised.

It was 6:00 am on a snowy and quiet morning. I was up watching the news to see if school was closed since I work for the Department of Education, For what seem forever finally Mayor Bloomberg decide to close the schools due to all the snow that was on the ground and still falling. I was so glad to have a day off as well as my daughter and husband. We all went back to sleep. I woke up again at 11:00 am and looked outside to see everything covered with snow. I got myself ready to go out and shovel snow. My husband was sick, he had a upper respiratory infection, so he could not go outside and help so it was up to me. I dressed up warm and tackle the snow. After what seem like an eternity my neighbor came to the rescue with his snow blower. I was so grateful for his help. I went upstairs my husband and son were still sleeping. My daughter was up watching television and wanted me to hang out with her. I changed my clothes and went to hang out with her. I fell asleep but I could still hear my daughter and husband talking. I turned around and slept a little more. I woke up to go to the bathroom as I looked in at my husband he was sleeping but he was really still. I went to the bathroom but I had a feeling that things were not right. As I was approaching my daughter's room I sense something was wrong with my husband. He was not breathing; I called out to my son and I began to give him CPR as my son called 911.

After my son called 911 the paramedics were in my home in less then five minutes. A team of paramedics worked on my husband for two hours. I have never seen paramedics work so hard. The chief paramedic came over to me and asked me if I had a sister or someone I could call to stay with me. I told him I only had brothers, so I called my younger brother who lives a couple of blocks away to come over. As soon as he came the chief paramedic told me that they tried everything but they could revive my husband.

All I remember is the room spinning and going black. My heart was ripped out of my chest and just stomped on over and over. I just kept asking "Why God?" and "Why Me?" Then I thought it was not true it was a bad practical joke. I went to my brother and said to him " This is a joke he is not dead?" I was in such denial. I could not and would not believe my husband was gone especially that he was in our bedroom in our bed. He looked like he was just sleeping peacefully. My best friend, my soul mate, my life was gone forever. I would never be able to share my accomplishments or our children's accomplishments with him. I would
